Mad girl

20090830-6

I recently started watching the first season of Mad Men (I’m just up to episode two). I haven’t watch enough to say if it’s any good, although so far I do like it, and most people seem to go crazy for this show. Something I find funny is that everybody smokes in this show.

I have to say that the girl above, Christina Hendricks, really really impressed me. Wow, she’s good looking, and has quite a presence, if you know what I mean.

For know I’ll keep watching the show, maybe some day I’ll go find some photos of this cutie and post them here.

Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.

These types of photos seem to be everywhere nowadays…you know…write a "deep" quote, and take a picture of it. One is cool, two are nice, but fool me once…you can’t fool me twice. Why are these type of photos everywhere? Or is it just me? Anyway, I still love most of them.

Ok, let’s forget about that. I know I like writing nonsense, but what am I supposed to do? Post beautiful photos like the one below? I can’t always do that you know, I have many other things I want to share with you.

Either way, you know what I hate? I hate it when you find a cool photo in some site and it doesn’t point back to the source or offers any attribution. I always try to do that, I don’t know why a lot of people don’t. I mean, for example, I love this photo right here, and I wish I could know who took the picture. I can’t, because I found it in some random site with some other random photos (like the first one in this post). Can you tell me, who is the author of the portrait of that girl?

I’m desperate! What should I do! Tell me! TELL ME!

I think I’m getting old. How do I know? Because I don’t like most of today’s music…you know…I dislike the young people with their T-pains and their Justin Timberlakes and their Lilly Allens. I prefer my Tool and my oldschool Pearl Jam.

I do listen to all kinds of music though, and from time to time, there’s a band that rocks my world. The latest example is Company of Thieves, a Chicago trio with a female singer that is absolutely awesome (and cute), two other guys that smile and play some instruments, and a nice folksy rock style. So, they are not entirely rock, but they are cool, and their music is cool, and the singer is cool. In conclussion: they’re a good band.

It looks like they have a lot of fun on their live shows, it’s a shame it’s very unlikely I can see them live (I live in a third world country in South America), so I can only listen to them on my Zune (actually, I listen to music on my N97; my Ipod is gathering dust somewhere).

Back to topic now, what was I talking about? Company of Thieves? Well yes, you might like them as well, check out their latest video of their song “Pressure

The voice of Genevieve (the lead singer) melts me, it’s so amazing. Also, check out their first video for the song Oscar Wilde, it’s a really nice one.

Finally, if you did like them, go buy their album Ordinary Riches

Are you wondering what movie did I watch yesterday? Let me tell you: Happy Feet, which I can’t believe was released back in 2006 (that’s like so many years ago, like 3 or so years, wow!).

It’s a cute movie. It’s a fun movie. It’s about penguins…dancing. You already know. You’ve probably already seen the movie a hundred times. I actually saw it 3 times yesterday (I left it playing while working, to keep me company).

The actor that does the voice of Mumble is Elijah Wood, who’s also lending his voice to the main character of 9, a movie that I definitely am looking forward to see. Here’s a sneak peak:

That movie isn’t out yet, but you might want to see Happy Feet again. If so, and you still don’t own the dvd, go buy it …now!

her name is L…

buy this print. Photo by suo-me

I’ve been posting more photos at fb spin, but I’ll think I’ll return to the habit of posting some cool and interesting photos over here. Why? Because you deserve it, and because the sky is blue and roses are red….I mean, because I have no idea why…happy now?

Today we have this gorgeous photo of a woman with her tattoo of two butterflies (or is it two tattoos of one butterfly each). I love everything about this photo, the color, the dress, the tattoos…

You can check out more of the work of this photographer at suo-me’s deviantart gallery. If you prefer flickr, then go to his gallery at flickr. And if you’re a Livejournal kind of person, then go to his blog.

Other cool photos by cool photographers:

Also, check out mirabilia images (art photography), the portfolio/blog of a very talented photographer, but watch out, people are not wearing clothes in some of his photos.

I got Devil

This is a cool little video with some really cool music. However, it’s strange that this a man sings this song. I mean, check out how it starts: “Some say I got devil, some say I got angel, but I’m just a girl in trouble”. Other parts of the song makes it very clear that a girl should be singing it.

Anyway, it’s a nice rendition of a song by Safka Melanie. Don’t ask me who she is, I never heard of her before until now; the rumors say she’s a singer-songwriter born in New York City in 1947, and is best known for her hits “Brand New Key”, “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain” and “What Have They Done To My Song Ma”.

The video below is a cover of her song Some say (I got devil) (listen to it here), which is on the B side of Brand New Key. Ha, were you born in a time when there use to be B sides?

Ok, enough words, check out the video.

While you were watching the video, I was doing my own research (you lazy bastards), and found out that this specific version of this specific song is is sang by the very specific Bonnie “Prince” Billy (and Tortoise). Go To horse latitudes where you might be able to listen to the same song without the weird fashionably cool video you just watched.

That’s why I love the internet. I didn’t know about this two artists, now I know, and so do you, unless you already knew.

A weird one

20090827-1

Are you wondering what movie did I watch yesterday? You probably aren’t, but I am. I’m still trying to figure out what the hell did I watch, and whether I liked it or not.

Bug (2006) is definitely a weird movie, not for everyone.  It’s crazy, and it’s about crazy people. Actually, it’s about people with delusional paranoia and schizophrenic tendencies.

The movie was directed by William Friedkin, who’s made a couple great movies like The French Connection,  the original The Exorcist, and To Live and Die in L.A.. So you can’t deny that the movie’s director is bad, because he isn’t. Ashley Judd stars in this crazy little movie, which is another good thing. She’s a good actress, and she happens to be naked in a couple of scenes (it seems I measure how good a movie is by who appears naked in it :) ).

Anyway, I’m not trying to convince you to watch Bug, because you probably don’t want to. As I said, the movie is not for everyone. I’m just telling you what I watched last night.

Anyway, maybe, just maybe, you still want to see it, so you might as well go buy the dvd

Five Fingers

20090826-1

Surprise surprise, I watched another movie yesterday, and it was good. It was Five Fingers. It’s kind of an old movie (2006), but I never heard about it before. I didn’t know much about it, either, which I guess was an advantage.

Anyway, the plot is pretty simple: Ryan Phillipe’s character gets captured by Laurence Fishburne’s character and friends. Then he gets tortured (the title of a movie is a big tip of how….five…fingers?). The whole movie is about that, but what makes it interesting is the dialogues and the interaction between the characters. I think Ryan Phillipe did a great work here.

Anyway, I liked the movie, maybe you will, too. Maybe you’d want to buy the Five Fingers DVD.
