Perfume

This is not a new movie, but still I wanted to talk a little bit about it. Perfume: The story of a murderer is one of my favorite movies of all time. The story is captivating, the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, and the soundtrack is beautiful.

Perfume

The story revolves around Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, whose incomparable sense of smell and inexplicable lack of a personal scent isolates him from society. Obsessed with the rich sensory world he alone inhabits, his single objective in life becomes the preservation of the perfect scent: the skin of young, beautiful women.

from wikipedia

The movie is a piece of art, and although it doesn’t deviate that much from the book, as usual, the book is way better. Perfume, by Patrick Suskind is definitely a book you must read. As with the movie, that book is definitely one of my favorites of all time.

By the way, the actresses are gorgeous. Rachel Hurd-Wood is such a beautiful girl, it’s almost unbelievable. And it’s no wonder that Karoline Herfurth (the plum girl) is the representation of the perfect beauty that can make a man lose his mind.

A story where the sense of smell is one of the main characters is very difficult to translate from the pages of a book to the big screen, but the director succeeded in this transition. According to the wikipedia, Stanley Kubrick once said that the book was unfilmable.

Ridley Scott, Tim Burton and Martin Scorsese either considered making the movie or were involved with the project at one time, but luckily none of them got to make it. They are great directors, true, but I think the one director that finally made this project a reality, Tom Tykwer (also known for directing Lola rennt) was just perfect for it.

The soundtrack is so beautiful, each song in the movie transports you to another world. Again, it’s one of those albums you should own.

Check out one of the awesome scenes of the movie (where Jean-Baptiste Grenouille meets his first victim).

Going a bit off topic, but still related. Listen to the melody (the name of the song is The Girl with the Plums). Besides the fact that it’s gorgeous, pay special attention to it in the video at 1:11 and forward. Now listen to Evanescence’s cloud nine. I wonder if they got too inspired by the movie, because the similarity can’t be discussed, can it?

Ads, which is better

The following ads are for two completely different product. But I wonder which one is better? I’m leaning towards the Chupa Chups ad. Somehow, sex sells, eventhough the second series (for Villa del sur) is probably way more realistic.

I don’t know what the marketing department was smoking when they thought this would be a good idea.

Irresponsible pictures

It's not funny
by Evan Hayden

This illustration catch my attention during my daily visits to the interweb, and now here I am sharing it with you. The creepy thing up there was created by Evan Hayden, who doesn’t spend all his time only on illustrating stuff, but also on comics books, photography and illustrated photography.

Bonus: a cool portrait and Hellofreaks

The Running Man

Remember that ages ago MTV was very cool and plain weird? It seemed that their goal back then was to twist your mind, with shows like Beavis and Butthead, Aeon Flux, The Head, and others. Infact, some of those shows came out of one of the cooles series of all time: Liquid Television. The stuff that series showcased was just too weird at times (like the Art School Girls of Doom), and just too cool at times, like this crazy animated short: The Running Man (no, I’m not talking about the movie with Schwarzenegger). I’m talking about an animated short by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, who also work on the fabulous Animatrix (in the world record episode). Weird that I’m talking now about Matrix related stuff, as lately I’ve been in a very Ghost in the Shell state of mind, which turned out to be a huge influence for the Matrix.

Back to topic, check out The Running Man, before youtube takes it down: part one and part two

bonus: unknown

Time for a youtube round, starting with Bert and Ernie doing like Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro in one of the scenes from Casino.

Next. Another Bert and Ernie funny video, hilarious, but maybe you prefer Joe Pesci rapping.

Let’s calm down now and watch a cool but creepy video, maybe Tori Amo’s Fairytail will do. I liked that video, but maybe you have different tastes. Maybe you’d like to watch one of those hot webcam girls videos? who knows…

The end of the world

End of the world
don’t worry, you won’t feel a thing

This is old, but still cool. The photo above was manipulated (obviously) using Photoshop, transforming a calm beach landscape into an armageddon scene. Pretty cool, isn’t it? I got reminded of this thanks to the mysterious Cloverfield trailer.

If you’re into Photoshop, then AppendixSquared might be just for you, with a long list of downloadable brushes.

Staring Back at Me

Sexy cool
by wickedoubt

back from the site’s inactivity. As usual, work keeps me busy, but lets see what we have for today? Lets start with some great photos by deviantart member wickedoubt, then, more great and sexy photos by rust2d. I tell you, deviantart is full of talented artists.

Now, more random stuff. I love cars, though I don’t know anything about them (I don’t even own one), I just love how they look. Like this red one (2008 Shelby GT500 Super Snake), it looks amazing. Check out the specs if you’re curious about it.

Back to photography, check out Kuteev blog. It’s a nice site with links to wonderful fashion photography sites, though it seems it hasn’t been updated for a while.

Finally, I’ll leave you with the perfect represantation of how it feels like nowadays, while we wait for the new seasons of Lost, 24 and Heroes: there’s nothing on.

LSD on a cat

link to video

This video is absolutely weird. Poor cat. That’s what happens when you give your cat some LSD. Really, poor cat, that’s really messed up.

That drug doesn’t have the same effect on girls though: she seems pretty cool about it, and another girl on LSD, she likes it, they both live in a colorful world.

I don’t advocate the use of drugs, but it’s always interesting to read about them. If you do, too, then go check Drug urban legends. Keep yourself informed. I love the wikipedia :)
