La pièce vide

The music of Yann Tiersen is wonderful, emotive, amazing. I love it. La pièce vide is one of his beautiful pieces, and this time it is interpreted by a talented pianist found at youtube: Aleks Nguyen. Enjoy!

Portishead - Third

I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve you, and I don’t know what I’ll do without you

link to video, Nylon Smile, by Portishead - Live

Portishead used to be great. I used to love their songs. I used to love the voice of that singer: Beth Gibbons. It was a long time ago. It took them 10 years to come back, and I’m glad they did, because I love their new album. It’s simply put: magnificent. Portishead’s music still has the same hypnotic feeling I remember from their old songs. Beth Gibbons’ voice is absolutely beautiful.

It took me a while to finally get this album (it’s been there for a while), and I regret I didn’t bought it before. If you still don’t have it, you’re crazy.

Anyway, go read more reviews about this album: at the bbc, at culture bully, at pitchfork. Visit their official site, and their myspace page.

And for the good old times, one great video, Only you

Only you

Tool - Sober

Tool is the greatest band in the world. That’s all I need to say. And sober is one of their amazing songs (and one of my favorites). Oh, and the video is freaky, and so cool. Enjoy!

Repeat after me:

Minnie the Moocher” is a jazz song first recorded in 1930 by Cab Calloway and His Orchestra, selling over 1 million copies. “Minnie the Moocher” is most famous for its nonsensical ad libbed (”scat”) lyrics (for example, “Hi De Hi De Hi De Hi”). In performances, Calloway would have the audience participate by repeating each scat phrase in a form of call and response, eventually Calloway’s phrases would become so long and complex that the audience would laugh at their own failed attempts to repeat them.

Minnie the Moocher” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.

I’m very excited about the new Portishead album that is supposed to be released in April. That band was really great, and I hope they still are. Actually, I think they still are.

This is the video for Machine Gun, the first single of their new album called Third. I love it, it’s pretty dark and crazy.

It’s been a while since we had some music on this blog, so I thought we could have some today. Something cool, something awesome, some of a favorite of mine. Mr. Buddy. Rich..

From 1971. Pat LaBarbera on tenor, and Jeff Stout on trumpet. The mute Jeff was using started to fall out of his trumpet and Lin Biviano pulled it out. A great arrangement

This isn’t my style of music, but the video is funny, and Mariah is quite sexy. Enjoy!
