Archives For vintage

Incredible colour footage of 1920s London shot by an early British pioneer of film named Claude Friese-Greene, who made a series of travelogues using the colour process his father William – a noted cinematographer – was experimenting with. It’s like a beautifully dusty old postcard you’d find in a junk store, but moving.

vogue+germany+2013+march4

Edie Campbell in this retro style photoshoot for the March 2013 edition of Vogue Germany. She’s photographed by Sebastian Kim, looking quite cute while she pretends to be taking pictures with a 35mm film camera.
This one was my favorite from the photoshoot, but you might like others, so go check the rest of the photos at Smile.

Jean Shrimpton, 1962

Jean Shrimpton photographed by David Bailey in 1962 for British Vogue. This is one of many photos from a photoshoot in the streets of New York.

This one, and apaprently a few other photos of the beautiful model can be found in David Bailey’s book, NY JS DB 62, which you can buy from amazon. It must be a great book.

Let’s start the day with some music. France Gall chose this song to sing on March 20, 1965, at Eurovision. It seems that a lot of people didn’t like it, but she ended up taking the Grand Prix. If you want to read more about her, that’s what wikipedia is for.

1965_Jean_Shrimpton_Paris_August_1

A photo in black and white taken by Richard Avedon in 1965 for Vogue US. It’s Jean Shrimpton with a beautiful face and a really crazy hairdo. Did you know that most women in the 60′s looked like that? Fact!

Bonus: The Saturday Interview: Jean Shrimpton.

hb-may-1954-lillian-bassman-evelyn-tripp-4

This is what I’d call a fantastic fashion photograph. The model is Evelyn Tripp. This cool photo in black and white was taken for Harper’s Bazaar, issue of May 1954 (the photo was obviously taken before that, so that it could appear in that issue of the magazine). And the photographer, Lillian Bassman.

photoplay-4-59

Eve Eden on the cover of Photoplay magazine, the world’s top film magazine, from April 1959. Inside: Glamour parade – 5 girls in gorgeous colour. And Dana Wynter on “Men”.

I tend to like these vintage covers a lot more than the ones on magazines nowadays.
