Time for some vintage illustration. Today’s the turn of italian illustrator René Gruau (1909-2004), a very famous fashion illustrator who had a great impact in the fashion industry (hey, Gruau’s first position as artistic director for advertising was with Christian Dior, back in 1947).

Here we have a simple but very stylish fashion illustration for an add for Blizzand, which apparently was a popular brand of raincoats. Here’s another illustration by René Gruau for Blizzand featuring Audrey Hepburn in a red raincoat. Not really Audrey Hepburn though, just her eyes, but it’s a cool ad illustration.

Hey, I think I should end the post with the real Audrey Hepburn in a red coat, from a scene from her 1963 movie Charade.

Check out this page featuring more of René Gruau’s art; and this really nice post about Audrey Hepburn’s style in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, where I learned that 3 copies of her famous black dress were made, and one of them was sold  for $923,187 back in 2006. A lot of money for a dress, isn’t it?
